Privacy & everyday security tools
Generate locally, verify deliberately and understand what a tool can prove. A random password, an identifier and a file checksum solve different problems.
A useful way through
1. Create unique credentials
Generate a long password that the target service accepts, then store it in a trusted password manager. Reuse is a separate risk from weak randomness.
2. Verify exact bytes
Compare a downloaded file with a checksum obtained from a trusted publisher. Matching a digest does not prove authenticity if both the file and digest came from an untrusted source.
3. Keep control of stored data
New utilities do not persist input. Existing shelf and writing apps can use local storage. Export important work before uninstalling, clearing site data or switching browsers.
