How to use File Hash Checker

  1. Enter your own input or try the example above.
  2. Choose the mode that matches your task. Results update as you edit; random generators run only when you choose Generate.
  3. Review the result, then copy or download it. Closing this tab discards the input.

Compare with a trusted checksum

A matching digest verifies byte-for-byte consistency with that digest. If an attacker can change both the file and the checksum, a match does not establish authenticity.

File size and memory

The browser’s SubtleCrypto digest API reads the whole file into memory. This tool caps files at 100 MiB to avoid excessive memory use on phones. Use an operating-system hashing command for larger files.

Exact bytes matter

Different line endings, encodings, archive metadata or a trailing newline change the hash. The filename does not. Use SHA-256 unless the publisher specifies another algorithm.
