What is reading bingo?

Reading bingo is a playful way to structure a reading challenge: instead of a fixed list, you get a card of varied prompts — read a book by a new-to-you author, finish a cozy mystery, or tackle a self-improvement classic. Every completed prompt fills a square, and a full row, column or diagonal earns a line (or a BINGO! on the 3×3 board).

How to run a challenge

  • Pick a theme and grid size, then tap New board to deal a fresh card.
  • Mark each square when you finish that challenge — your card auto-saves in this browser.
  • Use Print / Save to keep a clean copy or share it with a book club.
  • Start a new board any time; your all-time completed count keeps a running total.

Reading bingo challenge ideas

Every board is dealt from a pack of prompts. There are four packs; these are a few of the challenges each one can deal you:

Pack Example challenges
Bookish Classic Read a book over 500 pages · read a debut novel · reread an old favourite · read a book from the library
Sci-fi & Fantasy Read a space opera · read a magic-school fantasy · read a dystopian novel · read a book with a dragon
Cozy & Comfort Read a cozy mystery · read a small-town story · read a cozy fantasy · read a book about a bookshop
Grow & Learn Read a habit or focus book · read a money or business book · read a book that taught you a new skill · read a book of essays

A 3×3 board starts you with nine prompts; 5×5 needs twenty-five. Each pack holds more than two dozen, so boards keep coming up different.

Running a book-club challenge

  • Share the card, not a screenshot. Use Share card to copy a link that reopens the exact board, marks and all, on anyone's device.
  • Agree the rules first. Decide whether a line, a full card or the most squares wins, and when the challenge ends.
  • Mix the packs each season. A cozy board after a dense sci-fi one keeps a year of reading varied.
  • Print a blank copy for the fridge. Print / Save produces a clean card for readers who prefer ticking boxes with a pen; progress on screen is kept privately in this browser.

Frequently asked questions

How does BookBingo work?

Pick a themed board (bookish, sci-fi & fantasy, cozy, or grow & learn) and a grid size. BookBingo fills the card with unique reading challenges. Click any square to mark that challenge done — your card saves automatically in this browser, and any completed row, column or diagonal counts as a line.

Can I use BookBingo for a reading challenge or book club?

Yes. Generate a fresh board for yourself, a friend, or an entire book club. Use the Print / Save button to export a clean copy, the Share card button to send the exact board as a link, or reset the board when you start a new challenge. Progress is stored privately in your browser and works offline.

Does BookBingo need an account or internet?

No account and no sign-up. The whole tool runs in your browser; your bingo board and completed squares are stored locally on your device and work offline after the page loads.

What themes are available?

Four built-in packs: Bookish Classic (general reading goals), Sci-fi & Fantasy (dragons, spaceships, magic systems), Cozy & Comfort (feel-good, mystery, café books), and Grow & Learn (self-improvement, money, AI, habits, focus). Each pack has a large pool of prompts, so boards keep feeling fresh.
