Home lab, network & server planning
Measure the equipment you own before sizing the equipment you might buy. Plan rack space, power, backup time and Wi-Fi coverage with visible assumptions.
A useful way through
1. Inventory the actual load
Record rack units, measured watts, weight and the heat a room must remove. Nameplate ratings and typical workloads describe different limits.
2. Plan graceful shutdown
Size UPS output capacity from the combined load, then check manufacturer runtime data and shutdown integration. A rough energy calculation cannot replace a runtime curve.
3. Check coverage on site
Use the Wi-Fi planner to explore access-point locations. Walls, neighbors, antenna placement and clients change the real result, so verify it with measurements in the rooms that matter.
